Last Hurrah at the Lake

With two weeks until school starting, and 35 weeks pregnant, our last week at the lake was in August this year. Dan and I have always loved our September trips to the lake enjoying the Indian Summer, loving not following the school schedule, playing with Grandma Linda and putting the boats away. My September 16th due date is the real reason we will not be going back this September, but I look forward to another Indian Summer trip next year as a family of five!

We drove up to the lake in our new car that has extra seating for the babe, so we brought Nana and Bub with us! On the way, Mac made a plan to get in the lake and swim right when we got there. As soon as the car was unpacked, he was in his suit and looking for his dad to jump in with him. I loved this moment, and couldn't stop thinking that this is the first of MANY quick jumps into the lake the moment we arrive.

We were joined by David, Meghan & Owen. We have been trying to get these guys to the lake for years, and since Meghan is on maternity leave, it was the perfect opportunity for them to get away. The kids were SO excited to meet sweet Owen, and loved helping out- especially feeding him and bottle! Lola is going to be such a big helper when her new little brother is here, and Mac was so gentle with Owen. They both will be amazing!

David had quite the weekend of firsts- first time knee boarding, first time fishing, which included catching his first fish and even learning how to unhook the fish. The kids were so excited for him (including the big kids... Dan and Bub!)

The fires were surrounding us and made it very smoky on Saturday. We decided to take a trip into Oroville for wine tasting and visiting our favorite taco truck. It turned out to be such a fun, relaxing day! On Sunday, after the O'Neil's left, we got to watch a fire plane fly over the cabin and scoop up water to bring to the fires. It was pretty amazing to witness. The plane came back for the next few hours, and again the next day. In between rounds, my dad spent time with the kids in the lake, really working on their swimming. This was probably my favorite part of the trip. I loved watching them have fun together and see their confidence continue to grow. It also brought back so many memories of spending time playing and practicing swimming in the water with my dad when I was young.

I was a little sad to leave the lake knowing we won't be back this summer, but hiking up the hill from the lake to the cabin was much more exhausting at 35 weeks! I'm definitely feeling ready to be home, get some projects done, some meals into the freezer, and get Miss Lola ready for kindergarten!
