After our holiday with Grandpa Jack & Grandma Linda, my parents arrived for their annual stay at the lake. This year, we invited Paul & Dawn to join us. We have talking to them for years about how much we love being at Palmer Lake, and I think they were excited to see what all the hype was about :)
My parents definitely know how to enjoy their time at Palmer. I feel like my dad is at his best when he is hanging with my kids at the lake. He arrives with a container of worms and gets right down to business gathering the fishing gear and heading to the dock with Mac and Lola. The three of them fish, swim, gather wood for the campfire, sing songs with Bub's guitar and harmonica, and skip rocks together. This year, Mac's goal was to catch a fish big enough to eat. As luck would have it, he was successful on the first day of fishing! Bub showed the kids how to kill, clean, and cook a fish fillet in butter. They loved every part of this adventure, but loved eating the fish even more!
We had much cooler weather than expected, but we still had a great time kayaking, canoeing, boating and fishing. Every morning, Dawn, Nana, Hank and I went for a walk together, and would return to see Paul on the dock fishing. As soon as Mac and Lola woke up, they would run down and keep him company, hoping he would catch something (it turns out that Mac was the luckiest fisherman this trip). Every night, we ended the day with a campfire, s'mores, and entertainment from Bub and his guitar. Another great time at the lake in the books!
